I’ll admit that I’m a latecomer to the popular show, but Dancing with the Stars doesn’t seem to grow less interesting over the many seasons. Every season, a group of (minor) celebrities
put on their dancing shoes and learn ballroom dancing along with an experienced partner. The pairs square off weekly in a particular dance, and the worst couple among the group is eliminated. Eventually a winner is determined.
Arguably, for many viewers, the costumes and surprises are the best part of the show. The women put on beautiful costumes and gowns for the various dances and in some cases, they push the limits on the amount of skin exposed. The celebs come from all areas including television, movies, sports and music. Some are graceful, some have personality, and some just have momentum to push them through week after week. Needless to say, it’s rather addictive to watch.
Like many of the “reality” shows today, there is a fan element in Dancing with the Stars. Each week, the judges comment and score dances by the contests. Then viewers have a chance to call in and vote for their favorite couple. The judges’ scores are combined with the votes of viewers and a loser is determined. If you thought American Idol made for hot debates among friends, wait until your favorite couple gets eliminated!
It’s hard to pick a favorite from the thirteen selected for this season. Although if pushed, I’d probably pick Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor. How cool can you get? A tall (she’s five feet and nine inches tall), powerful woman is dancing with grace and style after kicking the world’s butt in power match after power match in the sand volleyball court.
I might have to lean toward Cody Linley this season, too. He’s from Hannah Montana, but aside from that he’s the youngest star to ever grace the show. He’s paired up with an older woman and I just hope the boy can hold his own against the manlier men of the set. You should always pull for the underdog, right?
If you’re going to pick favorites, you’d better hurry as voting is already underway. The contestants this season are:Lance Bass
of NSYNC. He’s also a trained cosmonaut so he might really be light on his feet.
Rocco Dispirto is a celebrity chef who knows a thing or two about movement.
Misty May-Treanor the beach volleyball champion (My pick at this exact moment.)
Maurice Greene is the “world’s fastest man” or used to be. A track star should be able to get his groove on in a serious way.Toni Braxton
, the amazing singer, will be showing us her dance moves.
Kim Kardashian, who’s famous for being famous, will be dancing with an already injured foot.
Cody Linley from Hannah Montana is the youngest star at only eighteen.
Cloris Leachman is the oldest contest at eight-two years of age. This energetic granny is well-known for her decades of awards and you might know her from Spanglish or Beerfest.
Ted McGinley has been in many television shows and many flops over the years and many think he is the man to watch this season.Brooke Burke
from Wild On and Rock Star will certainly look good in her dancing shoes
Jeff Ross, the comedian, made it on the show and was immediately eliminated in the first few episodes.
Warren Sapp, a recently retired Superbowl champion will take a few turns around the dance floor.
Susan Lucci who is a natural for the show has finally caved after years of invites and will most likely win Season 7.
