You know you have it when youíre ready to ditch sweaters and pull on (yikes!) a swim suit. Sure it might still be barely above freezing outside, but you know you smelled a hint of spring in the air. And with that hint (real or imagined), Spring
Fever comes with untold fury.
For those unaware, Spring Fever is a condition that affects us near the end of winter. Dark days and cold weather make us long for sunshine and short sleeves. The smell of grass and dirt can force us to race to mall in search of cute new flip-flops and the first only mostly-cold wind of year makes a girl long for a pair of shorts. Well, maybe just a windbreaker, but whatever.
Curing Spring Fever
If youíve got the itch of Spring Fever, there is no cure but to scratch it. Granted, we tend to experience Spring Fever well before you could actually say that spring conditions have arrived. So while you might be dying for a new bikini, hold off on the beach until the ice caps have melted at least.
Get a Pedicure
If youíre just dying to feel like spring is here, go get a pedicure. A pedicure is a statement that youíll be showing your toes, and you canít show your toes in snow boots. If you donít have a favorite pair from last year, buy a pair of new flip flops or sandals to show off your new toes. Just wear them around your house if thatís the best you can do.
Ready the Spring Wardrobe
Warm weather may be a month off, but you can get ready now. Throw open the closet doors and go through your old spring wardrobe. Try on all your old clothes from last year to see what still fits and what is totally out of style. Make a pile for donation and then bring your mom up to see your now almost empty closet. Surely she will get the urge to shop (which is also a nice spring activity) and the two of you will rush right out to find the latest fashions to be ready for the first warm days of the year.
Open the Windows
So if youíre totally broke and your mom didnít play along, you can still feel spring-like. Throw open the windows to get a breath of fresh air. Okay, if itís snowing you might wait a week or two, but the minute the air temperature is tolerable, crack the window to let the fresh air of spring inside. Breathe deeply and day dream about warmer weather outside.
Go for a Walk
Or just go outside and experience it yourself. If youíre convinced spring is right around the corner, why not go look for it? Take a walk and see if any signs of spring are evident. Look for flowers, leaf buds on trees and melting snow. Take deep breaths to smell (or pretend to smell) the fresh air of the season
. Of course, if youíre wearing snow shoes on your walk, you might have a few more months to go to smell anything that might be anything but winter
