It’s almost that time again! Kids are heading back to school, but first you get to enjoy the last fun activity of the summer – shopping for your back to school wardrobe. This year, there are a few things to keep in mind when pulling together your fashionable look.

Bags

This fall, most looks seem to be all about accessories. Giant shoulder bags and clutch purses are must haves and sexy shoes are essential for any look. The giant shoulder bags are great for school. You can carry all the things that normally go in your bag plus the school stuff you’re forced to carry around. Even your required reading can look fashionable if you pull it out of your amazingly stylish bag.

A clutch purse is great for going out with friends. They aren’t that practical for school where you are probably trying to carry a bunch of things around and want to have your hands freed up. Plus, smaller purses can’t hold all the goodies you might need in a given day. The school year requires books, pens, calculators, notebooks, cell phones, hair brushes, make-up, and more. You’d be better off going with a giant tote.

Shoes

Shoes are sexy this year, and that means they have a rather grown-up flare. Pointy toes and delicacy are the trends. Clunky boots and mules are not going to make your legs look trim in your skinny jeans. Try some cute wedges or flats. Go for smaller casual shoes like ballerina styles or trim sneakers. Clunky running shoes are for the gym.

Be aware of how comfortable a particular pair of shoes is, however. You don’t want to be wearing shoes that are absolutely adorable before first period, but are making you hobble by second. It seems like you’re sitting all day at school, but the trips through the halls can be killer. Go with what is cute, stylish and comfortable!

Hoodies

Outerwear is making a statement this year, particularly the hoodie. Hoodies, or sweatshirts, jackets and sweaters that have a hood, are great for fall. It’s too warm to wear a full jacket, but a hoodie can go with you from weather outside that is starting to cool off to the inside of the school, which is probably freezing.

They are also easy to stash in your locker or giant tote bag. This makes them a fall back for when your shirt might be half an inch too short or a bit of your lunch decided to leave a rather permanent impression.

Uniform Cool

If you are one of the girls out there that has to make do with a uniform, jazz it up with stylish accessories. Get a great fit in all of your uniform pieces to start with and then find a great bag in an approved color. If you’re allowed to pick your own shoes, avoid the temptation to throw anything on – find something that will give you a bit of flair. Besides, you can look at your bag and feet and remember just how cute you look everyday outside of school.
