Pirates are famous for their colorful personalities and their adventurous lifestyle. Through out history, they were feared and thought to be dangerous. They would sail the seas in search of riches and their exciting trips would make for interesting tales. Often they would get in trouble with governments and be looked upon as outlaws and even start wars on the sea.
Today, the legends of pirates are kept alive in our minds through famous stories like Peter Pan, Treasure Island, and the blockbuster movie Pirates of the Caribbean. Sometimes they are shown as the bad guy like Captain Hook from Peter Pan who tried to capture Peter and his friends. But in other tales they are heroic and smart, and can trick the actual bad guys, like Pirate Roberts in The Princess Bride. But the coolest and best pirate these days seems to be Captain Jack Sparrow played by Johnny Depp in both Pirates of the Caribbean Movies; The Curse of the Black Pearl and the Dead Man’s Chest. Although sometimes he seems tricky and selfish, he does the right thing in the end and turns out to be the good guy, no matter what a bad boy he pretends to be.
Pirate clothing was usually loose and ripped, shirts and pants, but girls of the times wore corsets and skirts. Pirates always wore boots and had their sword or other weapon handy to fend off attackers. Sometimes they were accompanied by animals such as parrots, wore eye patches, or had a wooden leg, known as a peg leg, like we see in the movies.
