Schoolís in session and even the President is in the swing of the new school year. But motivational (and controversial) speeches aside, getting into a great groove during the school
year is a wonderful way to keep your grades up, your stress levels down and your time free for having plenty of fun.
Find a Notes Buddy
Now that you have your assigned seat in each class and schedules arenít going to change much, make that special friend you can use to stay caught up when youíre absent or just totally out of it. If you have an off day or spend your history class stuck in the nurseís office, having a notes buddy means you can simply ask to copy her notes without it being a big deal. Now, copying her work for missed assignments is a different thing completely, but lectures and the things the teacher says while working are usually the most important tidbits for tests and the hardest to make up. Use your notes buddy to stay caught up and be sure to return the favor when sheís in need of catch-up as well.
Bring a Homework Folder
It might be a bit juvenile, but a homework folder can be a true lifesaver. Your folder starts the day with all the homework assignments you completed last night. It finishes the day with all of those assignments turned in and all of the new ones ready to go home. You can put worksheets in the folder, pieces of notebook paper with notes and problems, and even sticky notes about which chapter to read in the class novel that night.
Another tip for the homework folder is to spend five minutes of time in your math class copying down the problems with enough space to work each on a sheet or five of notebook paper. That way you donít have to bring home your book, you can just use the problems on the page and your notes to complete your work.
Chart Your Pathways
By now you should know the best ways to all of your various classes within the school. Knowing how long it takes to get from Point A to Point B and then on to Point C and D is important. If it only takes a minute to get from one to the other you have time to socialize and stop by the restroom. But if youíre racing to beat the bell, remember it and donít risk tardies that period or try to stop by your locker.
Do Homework First
When you get home from school, go ahead and get the homework out of the way before you get sucked into all of the other things you want to do. Avoid your computer until you get the busy and boring work done. Then, once your homework is done for the day, put it all away in your homework folder and kick back and relax the way you need to after a busy day of learning.
