This year k and red were all over the red carpet this year with extra emphasis on glamour. The Oscars
are truly an event to be proud of. Not only do the producers of the show try and outdo themselves every year, but the 2008 Oscars ceremony almost didn’t take place thanks to the ongoing writer’s strike in Hollywood. But now the strike is over, the dresses are designed and the Oscars are on in a big way.
Black and red were all over the red carpet this year with extra emphasis on glamour. Miley Cyrus
looked stunning and totally appropriate for her age in a beautiful red dress. She wasn’t the only one in red – Heidi Klum showed up in a stunning number simply oozing elegance, but others like Cameron Diaz
chose to do their own thing. Cameron appeared in a form fitting peach gown that caught many fashion watchers off guard.
Baby bumps are big news at the Oscars this year. The most notable baby bump, Angelina Jolie
’s reported twins, was not to be found, but Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett and Jessica Alba all showed up in high fashion maternity style. When baby bellies look so good, it’s no wonder so many stars keep having little ones.
Notable Moments of the Evening
Javier Bardem really impressed the Oscar’s crowd by accepting his Oscar almost entirely in Spanish. No, he wasn’t doing it because he couldn’t speak English, and he wasn’t avoiding English as a publicity stunt. He was simply speaking in a language his beloved mother could understand. How sweet!
The winner of the short film award spoke in a foreign language, too. But he claims his lack of English is because he’s a bad student. So instead of his poor English, the winner accepted his prize in French – which is perfectly fine with me.
Gary Busey, ever the interesting man, got a bit overly excited when he saw Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet. He interrupted an interview with Jennifer Gardner to yell at Seacrest and then came back for another attack – this time with his lips, on Jennifer. Busey kissed Jennifer on the neck which startled her so much she wasn’t able to answer the question Seacrest asked about her family and found a quick way to escape the area before Busey could attack again.
George Clooney makes a political wisecrack on Hilary that has some serious repercussions. It seems everyone keeps picking at him over his little joke for the rest of the evening – must be a lot of Clinton supporters in Hollywood.
I personally always just like to watch everyone sitting in the audience, sometimes you catch really interesting little tidbits like when Harrison Ford completely ignores Calista Flockhart as he stares at another woman. There is always something special about the faces of dismay when someone else wins the big prize. But at least most everyone puts on a happy face for the winners – it is an exercise in public image, after all.
