Thomas has been made extremely popular with his television series in more
recent years. However, the real Thomas the Tank Engine is much older. He
first made his appearance in 1946. Thomas was one character in a series of
books about trains for children, and now of course there is a television
show and Thomas the Tank Engine coloring pages. The Thomas of the books was
a bit different from the Thomas we see on television today. In the original
stories, Thomas is rather cocky and wants more respect from all the other
engines and people on the island. In the television show, he is kind to
everyone and is always looking to help. For a true Thomas fan, either
version is perfectly okay so long as it contains his favorite train.
